A Good Weekend

Sunday, April 30th, 2006

Things were good, we went to see a traveling Sesame Street™ production (costumed, not on ice) on Saturday morning. We had front row seats so Aspie Boy got high-fived by both Cookie Monster and Bert. Whoa.

His socialization classes are really helping –he’s eight months into them– I would have melted down at his age. It would have been much, much too much sound and light and color to deal with. Don’t get me wrong, I would have been thrilled, but utterly overwhelmed and probably had a melt down.

The show was about 90 minutes long with a ~20 minute intermission to facilitate potty breaks and enhancing the venue’s bottom line. Children’s Television Workshop’s too. Eight bucks for a mylar Elmo balloon is pretty outrageous, imo. So we emerged without undue monetary distress. Aspie Boy was just about at the tipping point anyway. He did a great job.

Today was ‘go to the park’ and so we did.

Hello world!

Sunday, April 30th, 2006

This is my first post as Aspie Dad. I am the Father of a four and a half-year-old boy identified with Aspergers Syndrome (AS). I have also been identified with AS.

My wife has not been formally evaluated or identified in regards to AS, but it seems possible, if not likely, that she may be ‘on the spectrum’ as well.

We are happy, independent people with advanced college degrees (well, our son doesn’t have one — yet) and have a good life in the world of unsuspecting neuro-typicals.

This blog will be about us.
