It’s About That Time

Thursday, April 19th, 2007

You may be interested to know that we are beginning the secondary teething process. I was awakened this morning by a very excited 5½ year old. “DaddyDaddyDaddy! Daddy! I have a loose tooth! LOOK!” And bade me do so. Of course, it was impossible not to as his mouth was very close to my face.

“Oh Sweetie, you’re being a space invader! Hey, you’re getting to be such a big boy! You’re growing up!” (Which was not without a slight emotional tightening of my throat. That means we’re all that much older, too.)

Immediately he clutched me and wiggled in faux fright, “Oh, I scared! I don’ wanna grow up! I scared!” Then we both laughed. “I’m silly!” “Yes you are.” And we continued to laugh.

Then he wanted me to feel the wiggling tooth and I reassured him that the tooth fairy does make house calls.

He is getting to be such a big boy. Sigh…

In Another Play

Friday, April 13th, 2007

While I was sitting one night with a poet friend watching a great opera performed in a tent under arc lights, the poet took my arm and pointed silently. Far up, blundering out of the night, a huge Cecropia moth swept past from light to light over the posturings of the actors. “He doesn’t know,” my friend whispered excitedly. “He’s passing through an alien universe brightly lit but invisible to him. He’s in another play; he doesn’t see us. He doesn’t know. Maybe it’s happening right now to us.”

Working Definitions

Thursday, April 12th, 2007

I saw this over at Suzanne’s MySpace Blog:

“Curebie” defined

n. A person who wants nothing more than to teach child autistics to speak, and adult autistics to shut up.

Suzanne, that’s pretty funny and in my experience, true. I’d trackback if I knew how on MySpace…

Technorati picked up a link from her page which displayed in WordPress’ Dashboard feature, so I followed…

[update I] And thanks to Amanda, I found out that there is something called Curebie Bingo from whence that definition ultimately sprang. No doubt fully formed, from Amanda’s forehead.
