A Short Vacation
Saturday we are heading to San Diego for some overdue R&R and associated heat avoidance through –probably– next Saturday. The primary thing we have planned is a surf camp for autistic kids on Wednesday.
The videos at the Surfer’s Healing site are really nice. Some of you may recall an ESPN commercial about taking autistic kids surfing and the rewards of sports. These are those folks.
I grew up in Kansas listening to the Beach Boys and Jan and Dean in the 1960s, but I’m not living vicariously. Really, I’m not!
Ever since we saw Surf’s Up he has been adamant about going surfing. We’ll see how that plan survives contact with the ocean. We’re into sharks, too, but I’m not going to bring that one up when we’re at the beach…
In addition, there will be Sea World (Aspie Boy thinks he wants to get splashed by Shamu), the Zoo and Wild Animal Park, LEGOLand, the Museum of Man and doubtless other things. Any suggestions for things to do or not miss?
In the meantime, be well.

Have fun! That camp looks neat. My ASD child loves the feeling of deep water, or water pressing against her body. Perhaps I should look into surfing.

Most excellent. Watched some of the videos. Looks like you’ll have a gnarly time.
