It’s About That Time

You may be interested to know that we are beginning the secondary teething process. I was awakened this morning by a very excited 5½ year old. “DaddyDaddyDaddy! Daddy! I have a loose tooth! LOOK!” And bade me do so. Of course, it was impossible not to as his mouth was very close to my face.

“Oh Sweetie, you’re being a space invader! Hey, you’re getting to be such a big boy! You’re growing up!” (Which was not without a slight emotional tightening of my throat. That means we’re all that much older, too.)

Immediately he clutched me and wiggled in faux fright, “Oh, I scared! I don’ wanna grow up! I scared!” Then we both laughed. “I’m silly!” “Yes you are.” And we continued to laugh.

Then he wanted me to feel the wiggling tooth and I reassured him that the tooth fairy does make house calls.

He is getting to be such a big boy. Sigh…

My 5 year old daughter came up to me the other night with the same excited look on her face.

She’s always trying to keep up with her older (7 year old) brother, and I think half the excitement to her is that she’s “catching up” to her big brother.
