This just came over the Internet machine from Ralph Toddre who (now) used to be the Chairman, Nevada Autism Task Force and Founder, Autism Coalition of Nevada. Nevada’s budget problems are well known and the mismanagement of the nations’ worst Governor is a sad reality.

Hello All,

I felt it was important for me to pass on this information out of the Governor’s office.

Apparently the Governor’s office has decided that the recommendations put forth in the Nevada Autism Task Force Report, “will cost the state too much money”, and therefore will not be acted upon. The Task Force has been dissolved, and no re-appointments will be made. A highly placed source at the Governors office said, “that decision came from the very top.”

One of the recommendations was to continue the funding that we received in the last Legislative session, so apparently that is also in serious jeopardy of being eliminated.

It is amazing to me that the work of this Governor appointed Task Force would be dismissed so easily without even a discussion!

I am trying to get more information, but I felt you all needed, and deserved to know what is going on in our state, now. I urge you to contact your state lawmakers to convey your concern and displeasure with this decision from the Governors office. Also let them know that the fight has just begun! We will not walk away from this quietly! If the Governor gets his way, this state will regress at least 30 years in all Human Services. There is a Duty of Care that the government is required to meet for the citizens of the state. That is being ignored…

UPDATE:

A spokesman for the Governor has now told Channel 4 reporter, Vicki Campbell, that the Governor has read the Autism Task Force report…thought it was great…fully supports it…and now it is up to the former members of the Task Force, as an informal group, to present and convince the legislatures to adopt it.

Apparently, Josh Hicks and Mendy Elliot of the Governor’s office made statements that were not consistent with the Governors thoughts…and were not correct. Amazing how that happens!!

Still no formal Task Force to present to the Legislators, however at least it appears we have the Governor’s support, if not his staffs.

We will need to form the “informal” Task Force group…I welcome your recommendations and ideas…

Because of this suddenly changing, I am still not too comfortable with the results, SOOOO…it is even more important than ever to let you state representatives know of your support of the former Task Force recommendations…

Politics aren’t fun! More to come, I’m sure…by the way, story will air in Reno on Channel 4 news this evening, and tomorrow in Las Vegas on Channel 3 news.
